some one brought op andera yates in an answer given to a questions i didnt know who she was so i looked it up i read the details about her and found that she drowned her 5 kids in a bath tub and recently they have been trying to over through her conviction of the death penalty i didnt compleatly under stand if they had or not or even if they were going to im shocked think a mother would kill her kids i mean yeah i can see loseing your cool and yelling but never hurting them i dont understand why people hurt their kids weather it be beating them or killing them why dont people get help if they have thoughts like this so my question is what are your thoughts on what she did am i the only person who is outraged by this and doesnt think she should beable to go to a mental hospital (their talking about letting her out of prison to be in an institute) i think if you kill some one you sould go to prison none of this im crazy bull cr*p also her kids were named after bible figure mary john ect

so she was obviously religios and knew killing some one was wrong at one point she said she could hear satan from the walls of her prison cell i dont care how crazy some one is they should suffer for killing some one especially a kid especially 5 kids and when she called her husband she said its time..i did it he sai d is it one of the kids ? ... which one so i think he knew she planned o n doing some thing and i think he should be punished too for not takeing action to protect his kids i would rather have my kids in foster care than leave them with some one who may hurt them

I have always said that if a person kills another person they should be killed in the same way. I say they should drown her. Throw her off a bridge into a lake, hopefully she suffers.

This is actually a really old case. About 6 years old. Anyways, I do believe she was totally insane and still is. She's had mental problems her whole life. From what I've heard, if anyone is at fault it is her husband. She had really bad postpartum depression after the birth of every single one of her children, so her husband pretty much forced her to keep having children. When she stated she didn't want anymore, her husband would use her deep religious faith against her, pointing out bible verses related to a woman's responsibility to her husband to provide him many children. I've read a lot of books about cases of mother's killing their children and Andrea Yates is the only one I believe was honestly insane. The punishment of dealing with her mental demons for the rest of her life is a fair punishment. A mental institution is not a good place and ranks up there with prison in terms of treatment, etc. I'm outraged that any mother could kill their child(ren), but I also understand her struggle with mental problems. That is just my opinion.

That's what postpartum depression can lead to. Yates believed that she was such a bad mother that they would be better off dead. She knew it was against the law to kill them, but she was seriously delusional. She believed that killing her children was the sane and rational thing to do (obviously it wasn't) because they did not have a chance of going to heaven (again, this is a delusional belief that she held). She is very religious, and the thought of driving her children to hell was too terrible for her. The publicity that she brought to postpartum depression probably saved my life. It was a terrible tragedy.

If she is actually insane, the she should have to spend the rest of her natural life in a mental institution.
If she is sane, then she should be given the death penalty because she should never again be able to live in our society.

The whole insanity please is crap. SANE people don't kill like this. Of course she is insane but that does not EXCUSE her behavior or actions. We should get rid of the insanity plea. It makes a mockery of justice.

She should at the least spend life in prison.....but I'm all for drowning her.

Her husband is a dumb-*** but he is not responsible for his wife's actions. He is guilty of neglecting his family but most fathers are these days. We can't convict them all.
