If you did this in my state, you would not be charged with a crime under state law.
However, many cities have many crazy city ordinances. Although it is unlikely, it is possible that you could be charged with either a petty misdemeanor or misdemeanor for an ordinance violation.
However, if your sign is benign (doesn't offend), doesn't damage any property, and you didn't break into the building to post it, it is unlikely that you would be prosecuted.

IF, you do not obtain permission from the buildings owner/manager or the buildings occupant, and the police are called, (which is doubtfull), you may be fined in accordance with the Law for, and get this, "Solicitation Without a License/Permit.", as some windows have a tint or film on them and there are some types of tape that will peel it right off, and then your stuck paying $300.00 for a retinting job.

Usually that would be an ordinance violation or a misdemeanor. Some places would cite you for littering. You usually need a permit to affix a poster in a public building, no matter what the poster says.

Yes - if it's inside a building, they could be arrested for tresspass and vandalism. It doesn't matter if it's tape or just leaned against the wall. They could also be sued in civil court by the owner and/or the tenants of the building.

Just make sure what you post isn't the 10 commandments. Don't want to start any sniveling now. After all, about 10% of the USA might get offended. It doesn't matter that 90% want them there.

if someone catches you putting it up, they ask you not to. if someone sees it, they take it down. if the sign has any contact numbers on it, the police may, if they have nothing better to do, call you and ask you not to do it again. the fuzz has bigger fish to fry then someone who posts a non obscene sign where they are not supposed too. the building owner will tell you not to do it again if they find out it was you.

Could be construed as littering "placing unwanted material or refuse without permission"

I think you're going to get in trouble, if you don't own the building!
