I'm a 30 yr old female and I've been on synthroid for 6 yrs now for an under active thyroid. I know a person sheds so many hairs a day but mine is coming out to much especially at night because I wake up with my bed cover in hair. My doctor keeps saying it's not from my thyroid or from taking the same medicine for so long because my levels are always normal.

I've tried different shampoos and tips I've read on the internet but nothing is helping. I'm about to go insane over the hair all over my house and I can't get rid of it. I'd take vitamins if I knew it would help but I don't know what kind to take. I guess I'm going to have to find another doctor who can help me.

If anyone can give me some advice or tips on how to stop my hair from shedding so bad than please contact me?

Hair loss can be due to many different factors, and really only a Dermatologist or your doctor could evaluate that for sure.

Here are some possible reasons I am aware of:
1. Hormonal changes such as pregnancy and menopause.
2. Stress.
3. Diet. Not eating enough healthy foods such as fruits, and especially vegetables.
4. Not taking good vitamins daily.
5. Washing your hair every day, which depletes the hair of its natural oils.
6. Blow drying your hair daily, especially on a hot setting, and using the blower too close to your hair.
7. Not using gentle shampoos. Alternating your shampoos is good to do regularly to prevent build up.
8. Using the wrong hairbrush that is pulling and splitting your hair.
9. Heredity.
10. Perhaps a scalp condition. This is where possibly a Dermatologist could be beneficial.
10. Age.

I don't know if you live in California, but there is a company I believe called Regenix, that makes products to help people combat hair loss. I believe their website is regenix.com. They sound like they may be pretty legit, and can possibly help you or perhaps guide you in the right direction.
My hair is also thinning, and I am very self-conscious of it. I think for me, it's part of Menopause. I just try to be extra careful when I brush and comb it.
I wish you the best, and I hope I have helped you.

Hmm...if you're sure it couldn't be your thyroid, check out these possibilities.

1. Female Pattern Hair Loss. In 3 out of 10 young women and 5 out of 10 women over 50. Treatable with Rogaine and hair replacement. I've also heard Nioxxin shampoo helps.
2. Autoimmune disorder. Alopecia areata (2% of population) and lupus (any other symptoms--muscle pain or a facial rash?)
3. Dandruff. Scalp infections.
4. Antidepressents like Zoloft.
5. Diet. Lack of protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, B-vitamins and Vitamin A. If something not diet related is causing the hair loss, vitamins are no cure. But they can't hurt. Go with Centrum multi-vitamins and additional Omega 3 fatty acid supplements. Biotin is good, too.
5. Mercury poisoning. Do you eat fish more than 3 times a week?
6. Stress. Did something happen to you three months ago?

I always say this--but see a dermatologist. Schedule and appointment early because the waiting lines can be long. Also, Rogaine works best when started early.

You may also want to get a second opinion about your thyroid being the problem.

P.S.-->Remember, have hope and options.
A.P.S.-->This month's issue of Allure had a very informative issue on female hair loss. Apparently, Sweden is working on some promising lazer technology.....

Okay, I am a cosmetologist. My heart breaks everytime I have a young woman come into my chair and tell me this. I understand how painful that is, to lose large amounts of your hair. I mean hey, our hair is our life. It totally defines who we are. So here are a few things to keep in mind. One, you are 30. Your harmones are changing sweets, and when they change, so does your hair. Hell, I am only 21 and my hair is soooo MUCH thinner than when I was 12. Plus diet changes, weight changes, stress, birth, environmental problems all can make you lose hair and rapidly. Also being over weight or under weight can be a problem. You also mentioned that you have an underactive thyroid and your doctor is right, that is a good reason for your hair lose, and yes medication does also change your hair. Hell, people who take certain prescriptions can have hair color turn out different because of the medication. So here is a few tricks and tips. One, always listen to your doctor. Trust me they do know what they are doing. Also, take a multi viatiam every day, one a day womens is amazing and they cover everything from a to z and some. It will cover everything. Never use shampoos and conditioners you find on the internet, or in drug stores, grocery etc. Most contain a lot of alcohol that will make your hair worse. Do however make a trip to a good hair salon and ask for advice and help on products to use. Its like a doctor, you can not diagonis your own medical problems. You can't do you hair eithar, thats why we have liscened cosmetologist. Buy a good protien treatment at a local salon or beauty supply store, it will help build the keratin in your hair making your hair healthier and fuller. But only use it once every week to two weeks. Stop coloring your hair or putting any chemicals on it if you do already. Also, a great shampoo and conditioner is Bumble to Bumble thicken shampoo and conditioner, it does not make your hair grow, but it swells the strand to make it fuller. Don't pick, pull or brush your hair. Only use a wide tooth comb so your not pulling more hair out. Also do not blow dry, hot iron, really put any heat on your hair. It will destroy your hair even more. If you have styling problems you can use some light weight mousse, but gels and other products might weight your hair more causing it to pull from the scalp. And give it a month or two to see improvement. As hard as it is you have to be paitent. If things do not seem better then see a dermatologist. I really hope things works out.

IT sounds like alopecia, which is a scalp disease that makes the hair fall out. Try taking Biotin, it really helps. The hair loss MAY be coming from your thyroid and the medication that you are taking. I had a baby last August and In November, my hair started shedding around the temples. My doctor ran a thyroid test just to be on the safe side. Luckily, it was just from having the baby, so YES it could be the medication that you are taking.

You may need to find a different doctor that specializes in hair and skin. My sister is a surgical nurse and she had the same problem. Her hair fell out like that. She got Vitamin B shot once a month. Cured it. I take synthroid and have same problem. doctor keeps telling me that its not the meds. He also told me that i didn't need vitamin B shots either. Ran blood tests and came back normal. Said to take a normal vitamin like multivitamin. Look at the amount of B's in them. Nothing! So he said I could take up to 1000 a day. Big difference. Helps immensly on being so tired too. Just takes some time to get into the system. If you can take the natural vitamins over the realy hard vitamins it helps. WalMart carries a liquid Vit. B that you can take with your regular vitamins. Good luck.

That happens with me also typically thats since ur scalp is very dry it wishes some oil for lubrication. Use a excellent made from hair oil (twice in every week at the beginning and later after a month or so, u could make it as soon as in a week. U can apply it in the night time earlier than u go to the mattress and may wash it on the next day to come morning if u dont need to elevate oily head) and get a scorching steam towel after doing therapeutic massage within the scalp with that oil. Use a shampoo for "long and strong " variety of hair.. It will make ur hair robust from the foundation... The entire great..

I would consult another doctor if I were you. Because I was going to suggest thyroid problems before reading the rest of your question. Also have a hormone level done by a gyno that could be it too but my first inkling is the thyroid. (I lost a lot of hair around your age because of hormone changes but not as bad as you described.)

Aside from the thyroid condition ( which can cause thinning of the hair ) Your age could also be a factor. Women naturally experience hormonal changes in their late twenties/early thirties...a symtom of these changes is unfortunately....Hairloss. I know because Im there with you ! For me it started at about 28....I seriously thought I was going BALD ! It gradually levels off...your hair just wont be as thick as it used to be. Watch out for acne though...and thats NO joke !

Hair loss affects both men and women. Here are some natural remedies that can help boost hair growth: https://bitly.im/aMLgF While genetics plays a role, there are other factors, including: hormonal imbalances, an underactive thyroid gland, nutrient deficiencies and insufficient scalp circulation.
