hi,
most high school students wear jeans with any t-shirt and tennis shoes! a high percent of those kids wear expensive, or shall i say recognized or popular brands! yes, both men and women may use the same jackets, but usually girls pick small and tight ones! high schools don't have uniforms, that only applies for elementaries and middle schools!

Patriotism has always been held hostage by some in California, with a few of their politicians deciding that the US Constitution is just a document that has no relevance today. Little wonder that school administrators take their cue from the likes of Pelosi and Boxer. If the garment was not defacing or defaming the flag and was not displayed on an inappropriate part of the human anatomy, then clearly the position was a knee-jerk overreaction. The tragedy is, all other flags and pride therein are tolerated within our country and it's the US flag that is reviled.

Parochial schools require uniforms - I used to attend such a school for junior high and high school.
It varies for public schools. Some do not allow t shirts with advertising on them, or wearing hats in the classroom. Some public schools in bigger cities have adopted the policy of wearing uniforms for students. Depends on where you live.

It varies widely with the school systems here in the USA. Some public schools have very lax dress codes and some have more strict codes...
The greatest number of kids wear bluejeans and t-shirts (in a wide variety of stages of wear or worn-out) and some wear very nice clothing like suits. Some schools have uniforms but most do not...
The school system in my area has a fairly lax dress code but they do not allow any kind of chains hanging on clothing or metal spikes (quite the fashion last year), or anything else that can hurt someone if used like a weapon.

Public school students wear anything they find on the floor. There is no caring if it insults others by words are printed or what picture could be showing. Private schools usually require some manner of approved clothing.
A lack of pride is what too many kids display in their choice of clothes.

Our HS makes us wear uniforms. We wouldn't have to have them if they would have enforced the dress code. We still have fights, people still sag, and we still have behavior problems.
