My custom 95' eclipse was rearended by a Ford F-150, my car was trashed, completely destroyed b/c the impact pushed my car against a rock wall. The F-150 only sustained minor damage to its bumper and a broken headlight. My wife (2months pregnant) and I both went to the ER via an ambulance, she had a broken nose, badly bruised eye, burns from the airbags deploying, and bruises all over her body. I only had a lacerated eyebrow and a badly bruised thumb, however the next day I returned to the ER due to extreme neck pain and muscle soreness, not to mention the pulsating pain on my bruised thumb. I was pescribed pain killers, muscle relaxers, and anti-inflamatory meds. The blue book value for my car is "$2,940" however, the add-on's are worth at least $3,000! Custom paint, 17"rims, spoiler (wing), body kit (front/rear bumper & sideskirts), high perf. muffler, etc.. The accident took place in Missouri, a non "No-Fault" state. With the customazations, my car is not worth the blue book value!!

Have your insurance company go after F-150's insurance company. There better be a police report (and a lot of tickets) on the driver of the F150.

What a shame. The shame in all of this is that your worried more about some stupid car over your pregnant girlfriend. Be thankful to God that you both are alive, and your little fetus is too. Now, I suggest you get a good lawyer and be ready to fight. You pay car insurance just like everyone else, so make your insurance carrier help you. That's why you pay your bill every month. I feel so sorry for you. You put your heart and soul into fixing up your car real nice, and then "kapow" it's totalled. That's why I hitch a ride with my Mommy everywhere I go.

Hope that you and your wife are OK. And the baby too. I agree with some of the posts. Check with the free legal advice web sites. They should be able to advise you about the custom portion of the car expenses. Usually your initial consultation is free to discuss the case. They will probably ask you if you kept all of the receipts related to the car and medical expenses plus lost work information. Gather what you can on these things.

Contact them.

Good luck.

I read the whole thing twice just to make sure I wasn't missing anything, do you realize you that only 19 words of your posting are about your wife and your unborn child. The rest is me, me, me and my tricked out car that I likely should have got rid of when I got married and found out I was about to become a dad. You are not the first, and you won't be the last, to spend money on additions to a car that serve no purpose. Now you know why it's not a good idea.

Do you have collision coverage? If so, read your policy to make sure customizations are not excluded from the policy. If it is excluded you will not get paid for the customizations. If you do not carry collision coverage, you're forced to deal with the other carrier involved.

You will have to provide receipts for every single thing you've customized on your vehicle...if you can't, you're outta luck.
If you car is a total loss, you will be paid the actual cash value of your vehicle, not the KBB. If you can provide receipts, these will then be added to the value of the vehicle, less depreciation.

Dude, Patti Duke is right. It seems you are more concerned about your car than your pregnant wife. Forget the car, you need to focus your priorities to your wife and unborn child. With that in mind, you don't need to be spending your money on some car that you are only going to waste money on with these add on's, You are going to need that money for baby formula and diapers, those items add up very quickly and they are expensive, I should know, I have 2 small children.

Being rear ended should be no doubt who's fault it is. Hope he has insurance and it was inspected by police and fault determined.
About your car. I do not think you will be more than blue book if the car is demolished, unless you have somehow insured the add ons.
