I want to translate books, manuals etc instead of using verbal foreign language skills. (working for the FBI, immigation, freelance work etc.) Would this be a good major/minor for this career?

Also, I wanted to get a minor in German and Japanese, would that qualify enough or should I get a major in it down the road?

Can I have two minors/double majors when being a translator?

Here is the website for foreign language positions in the FBI:

Currently, there are no positions for Japanese OR German translators...

I don't think a minor will make you proficient enough to work for the FBI. You can definitely have two majors and minors! The more, the better, obviously, but the time and money are usually an issue!

A foreign language is a wonderful skill to have and a minor is enough (the key is language acquisition, not degree), but why German and Japanese? I learned Chinese and it has helped me plenty. If you study Arabic or Farsi you'd get a job ASAP. You can learn an indigenous language from a remote island in the South Pacific and it won't help you at all. The key is "which language".
