You will not be able to find the statistics for this last year. That infomation is released by the Congregation of Divine Worship every 5 years or so. The Catholic church unfortunately has reduced the amount of excorcist priests in the last 40 years. There are only 150 excorcist world wide so you can be assured that they take only the most pressing due to this shortage. The above poster knows nothing and stating a bogus number, sorry to say.

No one, religious or laity, would like to acknowledge the fact that Satan is alive and well, tormenting and destroying souls. Many religious do not believe in possession and many are afraid to believe that it can occur.

If your interested in excorcisms read several books: "An Exorcist Tells His Story" and "The Exorcist - More Stories"
both books are by Father Gabriele Amorth and "Hostage to the Devil" by Malachi Martin. The last book is written by a priest about five American people possessed. Very spine curling for sure.

Pope Leo XIII encouraged Bishops and priests to perform exorcisms and he himself reportedly performed many. Today's church seems to be reluctant to do them. Glen Russell has a very interesting belief that mental illness of all types is demon possession. So, who knows. But if you are a Christian you cannot discount the possibility that behaviors of an abnormal type might just could be? Exorcisms can be dangerous, so perhaps that is why there is a reluctancy to do them.

I looked it up in the Vatican Exorcism Clearinghouse and there were 71 in the USA. There were originally 73 reported, but it turned out that two of the victims were just liberals and not truly demon-posessed.

I would judge very few. The Bishops really find very few actual cases for real exorcisms. Mostly people have problems with oppression rather than possession.

You don't need a priest, either. I know of 2 in the past year, just in my small bubble of my surrounding city

The Catholic church has stopped doing exorcisms year ago. They have abandoned their ghost-busters squad.

I don't know. But I would say that those that have been performed were simply cruel, ignorant measures against the mentally ill.
