You don't need to give him more treats. You need to cut back on the food you're giving him and increase his exercise. Don't deprive him....just cut back on the food and treats. Stop over-feeding him. He certainly didn't make himself overweight.

Both of my dogs were overweight. So per my vets recommendations I cut there food in half and started give them green beans juice and all. I did that 2 times a day.they love them and both have lost 10 lbs. To help them maintain I give them that in the morning and there regular food in the evening. Baby carrots as stated earlier are good for treats.

I would suggest only feeding your dog twice a day, morning and night. Don't give him 24 hour access to food. Dogs will over eat before they under eat. Give him LOTS of excercise. I would take treats out of his diet until he gets fit and then maybe once a day when he is back in shape. You can get healthy dog food for overweight dogs to help them get back in shape. Good Luck!

I do not know any recipes...but I do know that my mom's pug was overweight and instead of giving him dogs treats, she began giving him baby carrots. He loved them, plus they were healthier for him. I have also heard of dogs that enjoy pieces of apples, and bananas. So why not trying giving him some healthy "people food" instead of high fat/carb dog treats.

i feed my dog science diet dog food. they also make a food that is an "oral care" food...that is bigger pieces of the same type of food she already eats. so i started feeding her the "oral care" food as her treats and she is none the wiser! she really does think they are treats when actually they are just bigger pieces of food!
