Is it measured from the back coils to the front edge or from the back metal edge to the front metal edge?

It is measured from the part that sticks out in the back (either coils or bumpers back there) to the front of the door handles. You need to know it to see if the fridge will fit so you need to include everything. Most are about 33 inches deep but the ones that are made to not stick-out beyond the built in cabinets are about 24 inches deep.

If you are measuring cubic feet you measure the usable space inside the box.

Neither. First of all what is a refridgerator? Nowadays, all food has built in batteries to keep it cold, so why do you need a fridge? If you want to know how big your fridge is I suggest making love to it. This will tell you just how big it is (wink wink) and how warm it is (69)
