OK, I think I had a pilonidal cyst a few days ago. I've had them before, but it's been sooo long since I've had one that I don't really remember how things go. I felt the cyst, and it was painful to sit down, as I do remember...but my buttcrack (I really hate that word) felt wet. So I checked it out with a mirror and tissue, and those little holes in the buttcrack that I think most people have were oozing liquid...somewhat bloody. Stupid me played around with the area and oozed as much as I could out of there. Well, now the area (the crack mostly...ugh) is red as could be, it's sore and painful, and now I think yet another one (or two) or those holes are developing and oozing again. Is that still the cyst? Or is it from me irritating it? I'm too embarrassed to call my doctor, and my mom will have to take me and she's going to ask why I'm making a dr's appt.

From what I can tell, the bump/cyst itself is gone. The area is just red, sore, and inflamed. I also don't have a fever.

Here's some information on pilonidal cysts. You should go see your doctor, as this can develop into a nasty infection.

And fyi, I don't think most people have "holes in the buttcrack," so you might want to get that checked out.

Just tell Mom that you need to go to the doctor because the same type of cyst that you had before has come back and that it is causing pain and might be infected. You don't have to blame yourself. This can happen whether you mess with it or not. It is important to get treatment whenever there's pain.

Hi,

I had a pilonidal sinus/cyst excised and removed in septemer 2006. Since then it has re-ocurred around 3times and I have had an infection where it was excised. I seen a consultant surgeon in my area who recently performed a Rhomboid flap operation - apparently the success rate for this is high and no occurance is reported. I would recommend people to speak to their surgeon/consultant about this operation instead of having the pilonidal sinus excised and packed - as the success rate of this isn't very good. The rhomboid flap operation mayaswell be perfomred first as last as you are very unlikely to have occurance and problems with pilonidal sinus.

Information on rhomboid flap:

You shouldn't be embarrassed about this. It could become serious, but if you haven't had surgery on it to get it removed, it will always be there. It doesn't go away by itself. I have had one for about five years now. I was like you, I was embarrassed to go to the doctor because of the location of the spot. He told me that I need to see a surgeon, which I am actually seeing this Thursday. You shoudn't be embarrassed because remember, doctors have seen even weirder stuff. Go get it checked out. You'll be glad you did.

I really don't think it is a Cyst, it sounds more like a boil or a there is something that will grow under the skin my brother had something growing under his skin in the same area and he had to go to the er they numbed it and opened it out and put a wick in there to drain out the infection they told him if he would have waited he would have got really sick and could have died go to the drs trust me they have seen everything this will not shock them it could cost you your life I would rather be alittle embarrased than dead because I was to scared to ask a question!

you shouldn't be embearassed, those are painful and need to be taken care of. they usually are deep more than protruding. so I would go to the doctor, they may just put you on antibiotics to begin with if it's not too bad. if it's real bad they will have to lance it and drain it they may even have to pack it.

so before it gets real bad, go to the doctor. it's no big deal if you tell your mom, it's not like it's an STD. It's a cyst and it needs taking care of.
