decide what car you want and then check on the insurance to see how much the car will cost you and if everything is a go get the car and then insure it as soon as you get home with it.

Generally, you have to buy the insurance before you can drive the car off of the lot. General liabiltity is specific to the VIN of the automobile, so you have to purchase at least a liability policy for that specific car. This means, you have to buy the car first, then report the car info to your insurance carrier to have a policy made.
Here is the trick. If you have any full coverage policy, it usually covers any auto you drive: your car, your sister's car, your best friend, or a new car you just bought. You should be covered if you already have full coverage, so you should be okay to drive the car home and report the change in coverage later. Check with your insurance carrier to be sure you are covered in any car you drive.
Also, some dealerships are real jerks and don't care about general coverage....they want to see an insurance card with that VIN on it, so that they know they are not out the cost of a new car. The nice thing is, with most insurance carriers, you can make the change over the telephone and have them fax proof of insurance to the car dealer while you are waiting.

If you buy a new car, it goes at the same time, or, at least it always has with me. A used car from a private individual gets bought first and insured second, unless you're really a careful and responsible human being, in which you have already told your insurance company which car you're going to buy in order to see how much insurance is going to cost, and then, the insurance company will start your policy the very moment you buy the car and drive it off. If you buy a used car from a dealer, at least in my experience, purchasing and insuring happen at the same time. I'd hate to drive off my "brand new" used car, and get smacked right as I was driving off the lot, have it be my fault, and I was uninsured. OUCH!! God Bless you.

Select various cars you might want to buy and then talk to the insurance agent what the insurance is. Cuz if there are two cars you like the $400 a year difference in insurance might make the difference in deciding. Four doors are a little cheaper too.

If you already have a car with insurance, you should automatically be covered under the old policy. Once you buy the new car call your insurance agent and tell them. You can call them first to see if your insurance will go up and by how much.
If you do not currently have a car you need to have insurance to drive it off the lot. In order to do this, you have to be discussing it with an agent and let them know when you take possession of the new vehicle.

Without the car there is nothing to insure. So you get the car first, then you insure the vehicle based on its value and usage.

The car. How can you insure something that you don't already own? Insurance rates vary based on a car's features and year of production.

You can call your insurance place right after you get the car & they will add or replace the vehicle. You may want to try getting a quote online before you go look at cars. I am paying less than ½ of what I was before.
