EDIT: I just found out I might be able to go to the Nextel race on the 25th...I am acquiing the tickets through my friend who works at Irwindale as the Chaplain. They are in Sect. 39., Row 45, Seats 12, 13, and 14. I also get pit passes and party zone passes.

SWEET!

Drive in from the 15 fwy and exit Base Line st. east. Make a right on Cherry Ave. south and this will lead you to the parking on the right. It is a mess coming in from the 10 fwy. Go to 'Google earth' to see where you'll be going and actually see the track. Get there as early as possible and park on the grass strips and you can tail-gate with everyone before the event. Do not leave anything in the back of the pick-up that is of ANY value. The locals are not the most desirable types if you know what I mean. You leave the same way you came. Remember to bring soft containers like a soft cooler bag, soda bottles and find the beer, like Coors that are in the soft bottles, no cans allowed inside the ticket area but the parking area cans are allowed. You will have a great time,we always do.

Edit, We usually get there at 6:30 am and wear something warm for the morning chill.
Edit; Great seats !! You are up hi and on turn 1 with a great view of the pit exit. There is also a very large big screen at turn 1 to see other action and the back track is also viewable from your seats. When the cars are in a restart, walk down to the lowest seats and feel the power. It will raise the hair on the back of your neck. Have fun

Get the highest Grandstand seat you can get, otherwise you'll be starring at the pitrow boxes rather than seeing the action on the backstretch. Keep the earplugs at home, you PAID for that noise, if it's too loud, your too old! A lot of people rent the 'track headphones' to give you the little 'extra' insights of what's happening. Nice track, but looks like it came out of a factory, nothing really special about the Speedway. Very disappointed after attending the late great Ontario Motor Speedway for years.

Wear comfortable shoes! Normally there's a lot of walking involved, but it's all worth it.

The backpack thing is a good idea. I've never used one for snacks, but it comes in handy for carrying things like program, souvenirs, etc.

I'm used to going during the summertime, so I usually carry a wet washcloth in a ziplock bag in the cooler. Also, one of those battery operated personal fans comes in handy.

Just enjoy yourself and remember to keep enough money put back to renew your ticket for next time.

Check online for the track to see what size cooler you can bring. We also bought a clear backpack to carry snacks in.

Snacks, plastic bottled drinks, or cans...
check with the race track web site for deatils on cooler sizes and whats not allowed.
sunscreen
check the weather for proper dress....
