I'm already in good shape, can run a 5:00 mile, 3 in 17's and can run long distances...so I'm good there. But how can I prepare for the strength aspects of it? I have a year...how can I start preparing and what can I expect them to put me through during the 9 weeks.

If you can, schedule a few sessions with a personal trainer. Also look in your local bookstore; a lot of ex-military have written fitness books that should get you pretty close to where you want to be. This guy http://www.stewsmith.com/ has written some of the best.

It's not all PT, though. It will help to brush up on things like Navy rank, history, regulations and customs which - trust me - they'll grill you on, so coming in knowing that stuff that will make at least some parts of basic a little bit easier.

Well, you've got the stamina worked out, but now you need to work on upper body strength. Weight lifting three times a week working on the biceps, the triceps, forearms, chest, lower back and stomach muscles would be a good start. On the off days from lifting keep up the running. In a year's time the only worry you'll have is the mental aspect. If you can't handle stress, you'll have a real problem.

Just do push ups and sit ups. you will be doing plenty of them in between runs.

Good Luck
