The King James or Authorized Version of the Bible is an English translation of the Christian Bible first published in 1611. The New Testament was translated from the Textus Receptus (Received Text) edition of the Greek texts, so called because most extant texts of the time were in agreement with it. The Old Testament was translated from the Masoretic Hebrew text.

The King James version of the bible was first printed in 1611, however it was not the first English bible. The New Testament wasn't completed until 1557 and the Geneva Bible was printed in 1560, in English. It was the first edition to contain numbered verses for the purpose of quick reference. The King James version retains over 90% of the original Geneva bible and thus is not a direct translation from original manuscripts. The Geneva was the first bible to be taken to America. the Geneva Bible has been out of print since 1644.
King James removed, amongst other things, the part in the Geneva Bible that claimed the Pope to be an anti-Christ.
Interestingly, the original Protestant bible was the Geneva, the King James bible is the bible of the Church of England and was printed to COMPETE with the Geneva by authorities who throughout history were hostile towards and even killed protestants.
What many people don't realise is that all KJB published in America in the last 250 years is NOT the original 1611 version, it's spelling and wording was revised in 1769. The only way to read an unadulterated version of the 1611KJB is to purchase an original pre-1769 printing or a fascimile reproduction.
ALSO ... Up until the 1880's the KJB contained 80 books, not 66! The inter-testamental books known as the Apocrypha, which consists of 14 books written 100s of years before Christ, has been removed from the modern printing of the KJB.

It was translated and published in 1611. It never was written, but rather compiled by the officers of the court of King James of England. The works and books of the Bible were written a loooooong time before by several prophets of Israel and Jerusalem.

The word Bible actually comes from the latin word for "library." Biblia in spanish similar to biblioteca--library. Therefore the Bible is actually a collection or a library of the books of the prophets. Why else do you see the "book of Isaiah" or the "Gospel according to St. Luke" and so on.

The King James Version wasn't written. It was translated. The King James Version is not the "original" Bible.
