No you can drink shortly after you're done eating, your teeth are under acidic attack from the chemical reactions of the food you've just eaten, so drinking water shortly after eating helps rinse the teeth from food deposits which is good dental hygiene, if you leave it to ten minutes before drinking, some of the stuff that's on your teeth will be slowly forming to unwanted plaque, basically there's no ten minute rule.

don't listen to your brother otherwise your body isn't getting enough liquids and your body will get dehydrated faster if you did listen to your brother. also, your body will go hungry if you ate, waited 10 minutes, then drank water, waited ten minutes, then ate again and back and forth which is kinda not a good thing to do on your body since it does need it's nutrience. it would be safer to drink tea than water since tea is a whole lot better than water alone.

Drinking whilst or immediately after eating DOES affect your digestive fluids. Anybody who says different is an idiot. That doesn't mean it's something really serious, it's not going to kill you or affect you badly in any long term sense, it just means your digestion of the food on that particular occasion won't be so good.

I don't see why you couldn't have water during and after a meal. I do this to prevent from wanting seconds or stretching out leftovers. It's not so much for dieting as for budgeting. But for general purposes you should be okay.

I remember reading that drinking straight after eating dilutes the digestive fluids in the stomach and makes it a little bit more difficult to digest your food.

But try telling that to my dogs who go straight to their water bowls the minute they finish their meal! ;-)
