First of all to the people that have named a specific breed ie. pitbull, doberman, rott, etc. you are not nesseccarily correct. I have owned many of the 'mean' types and they all have been the sweetest dogs I have owned. I have owned a pitbull, dobermans, wolf/chow mix, german shepard mix, and many others. The pitbull was even attacked by a maltese mix and he only tried to run away from it. The bred of the dog does not make it a horrible dog. We had a 'manchester terrier' that was much more aggressive then the wolf or doberman.

Second to answer your question. It depends on how the animal was treated and trained. If the animal was treated horribly (abused and such) then there is a very good chance it will be mean. Also dogs that are trained to be mean (whether intentional training or not). I small dog such as a rat terrier, chihuahua, manchester terrier, palmeranian, etc can be just as mean as a large dog such as a pitbull, rott, doberman, german shepard, mastif, boxer etc. The only difference in the reason why you hear more about the large dog attacks is because they do more damage then the small dogs.

Therefore, do not base what kind of dog you get on the breed alone. And to those who do shame on you! You need to look at the training and general behavior of the dog. Even dogs of the same litter will have different personalities.

the meanest dog is one that had not been treated right and instead of having lots of TLC the dog was kicked and punched.

A dog is only what u make them to be! if u kick, punch and be real nasty to ur dog then of course the dog is going to be nasty and bite ppl but if u bring the up with love and care and only punsh them if they do some thing wrong well then the dog will be fine

ppl that say pitbulls have not been around one to know that what they r like!

I don't know. Does the book of records have a category which lists individual, record-holding names of the meanest dogs? Of course you don't mean which breed since it’s well known that stereotyping by breed is meaningless since dogs are individuals and the number of naturally born mean dogs of any breed is insignificant.

No dog is the meanest, but most that are very agressive are trained to be. Most peole think a pit bull is very agressive, but they will show love if you train them right. Just train the dog to be nice and gentle and obedient they will be great dogs.

I'm not sure......i think dogs that are abandoned or abused are most likely to be mean. But I usually just think that Rottweilers are the meanest dogs, in my opinion.

A dog breed doesn't make a dog mean. The way it is bred and raised and trained is what determines a dogs temperment.

anyways, like a few already said, its not the breed its the environment and treatment that makes a dog aggressive,not mean. when someone is mean they choose to be that way, and animals don't choose their disposition. and are you saying mean as in aggressive(most likely to attack or bite) or as in tough(able to take alot and give alot) cuz there is a difference

I think that pit bulls are the meanest dog. They are sometimes so mean that I have heard stories of them harming children and adults, and sometimes in major cases killing them. If you are looking for a mean dog, I wouldn't recommend a pit bull because it is so dangerous unless you have quality time to train it.
