no salt is was used as a preservative back in the day . Salt only goes bad if it comes in contact with water or other foods. It must stay in a cool dry place with little to no sun light. The purpose of putting rice in a salt shaker is to keep moisture out.

Storage life for salt is indefinite. So long as you do not let it get contaminated with dirt or whatever, it will never go bad. Over time, iodized salt may turn yellow, but this is harmless and may still be used. Salt is rather hygroscopic and will adsorb moisture from the air if not sealed in an air-tight container. If it does adsorb moisture and cakes up, it can be dried in the oven and then broken up with no harm done.

Salt is a mineral.... If it gets moist due to a package soaking then yes it will take on the odor of the moisture it absorbed. It will then not be very good to cook with but you can certainly use it to kill weeds and melt ice if you live in a winter snowfall state.

If you keep it dry it will virtually last forever.

well salt will not spoil like some other food products but, salt will absorb moisture and that will alter the taste and render it unuseable.

No. It's a preservative so it can't possibly go bad.
