Never would a nice golfer say quit!!....I would say that during the 1st 9 you have a couple of things to contend with. 1st being that u r not loose. 2nd being that you may be playing with other people you dont know and you r scared of looking like a dope knowing that u can play much better which makes you loose your focus but by the time you've got through the 1st 9 holes you forget that these new people are there and you get to play like u know u can. You have a handicap of 10 which alot of people can only aspire to. U just keep playing and if you can get your head in the right place....your h'cap will drop. Best of luck :)

Hello George
I like all the answers but Jojos the best.
For us weekend golfers we know that we have to play our best right from the start because we don't have 4 or 5 rounds to make up for bad shots. This makes us come out tense, even if we don't realize it.
Everyone here indicates a nice warm up at the range and they are right however the range is not used to see how far you can hit a driver but to simply loosen up and determine how you are hitting that day. Our swings and ball patterns change ever so slightly so use the range to see if you are hitting a slight fade or draw that day.
Come to the first tee and relax, remember its normally the front nine that is the easiest of the 2 sides on most courses. A suggestion would be to come out the first several holes playing conservatively and then attack when you can.

I find myself also doing this. I think the problem is that on the first nine holes we are really pumped up, and try to hit the ball way to hard.To much speed in the swing. On the back nine I am more relaxed and calmed down so I swing a little slower and hit the ball much better with control.Hope this helps you.It made a difference in my score.

I have the same problem... The reason i shoot worse on the front nine, is because I'm not warmed up and I can't make a good swing. By the time you get to next nine you are completly warmed up and can make a proper swing... Hope that helps.

Kind of similar to my game, I usually struggle the first 3 holes.
Maybe its because you arent lossend up, but you are ready by the back 9. In all sports its better to get ready by stretching, and practicing before a game.
I recomond going to the driving range and hitting a small basket prior to your game of golf. You should do better

you need more warm up time, go and hit a bucket of balls at the driving range, do some putting, a few chip shots before the game, that should help

i have the same problem. i think its because it takes those 9 holes to get into that groove. maybe i don't warm up enough. this happens usually when i ride though. i dunno why but i always play better when i walk. give it a try.

it's probably the beer and hotdog you have after the 9th. try having some before you start playing and see what happens.
