for the sake of ecumenism? Do you feel this is right or a little like throwing the baby out with the bath water?

Calm down Judy, I am a Catholic who is devoted to the Blessed Mother. You do not need to berate me. Thanks for sticking up for Catholics though.

Yes, i think she is downplayed. I am against Ecumenism. No one has been able to explain it to me.
I do know that catholics have to bend more to the protestant side then vice versa.

Publicly, perhaps.
Privately, devotions to Our Lady are as popular as ever, especially in times of crisis, or when death is imminent.
Jesus specially created and blessed his mother, and it was he who designated the Blessed Virgin Mary as a role model for all of humanity, and a mother to all those who have no mom of their own.
So, all Marian devotions are ordered towards our ultimate perfection in Christ, through cooperation with his grace.
And even Muslims hold the Blessed Virgin Mary in very high esteem.
If that's not ecumenical, than I don't know what is.

HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just because you think you are special, doesn't give you the right to look down on your mother religion. DON"T dare think you are better than Catholics who at least have the guts to stick with their religion and follow the teachings of Jesus, not the blatherings of some preacher from the sticks. And No, I'm not catholic. I'm just sick of you holier than thou born again losers telling others how to live while driving caddys, wearing furs, and owning mansions.

I formed my whole way of life by being moderate in all things. My devotion to Mary and my whole faith in total is very moderate, I get embarrassed by fanatics (umm overly passionate) of either fringe, because I have to explain I do not hold with extreme views of my faith. I can't stand watching or hearing about overly passionate people losing control on an issue - it never helps convey their real message.
I did not know, and now am sad, that devotion to Mary is an issue.

Hi Midge.
Interesting question. As I am not a catholic I will not answer this one. Just wanted to say "Hi" - we haven't crossed paths in a while.

I think Jesus like most sons listens to his mother. So she is a wonderful prayer partner, you know he is going to hear her prayers.
