My parakeet was sitting on the couch and my boyfriend (who was asleep) accidentally rolled over on him. My parakeet flew away but keeps streching his wing out and acts subdued. Do you think his wing is broken or maybe it just hurts?

darn boyfriends! and, yes, it can. it would be painful for the bird, and i think it would learn pretty quick not to. but for the bird's sake, take it to a avian vet and let them tell you whether or not it is truly broken. it may just be sore or something alongs those lines. hope i helped!

Do not let a new bird out of its cage! It will fly into walls, furniture and worse yet, fly into glass and mirrors. If the blood is dry, it probably will be ok as long as the feathers don't look bent in odd directions. If the wing is broken, unfortunately your bird will probably die. When you bring a new bird in, you should set its cage out of the way and leave it alone pretty much for the first day or so until it gets used to its surroundings. You should watch it from a distance, walk slowly and talk quietly to it when you need to approach to change the food and water. There shouldn't be too much commotion around the new bird for a few days. Sitting quietly near its cage and letting it become used to you is a good way to start making friends. If the bird is really afraid and you can't keep it someplace safe, you can cover the cage with a cloth (leave room for air circulation). Several times a day, sit closer to your bird and talk to it, move your finger to the cage door but just sit there quietly, the next day sit quietly with your hand just inside the door and so on until your parakeet is used to you, trusts you and eventually you'll be abe to touch your bird. At that point, you can touch the parakeets stomach, feet and soon after that your bird will step up on your finger and use you for a perch.

I think it has a broken wing. With a broken wing, a bird is unlikely to be able to fly. It would hurt ALOT! The best idea is to take it to the vet and let them examine it.

It may be broken. The only way to really tell is to get her to the vet for examination. I do not believe that a bird can fly with a broken wing...with so many bones in their wings it would be awfully painful.

If you feel along your birds wing if it is broken you will feel a break. If it is fractured I do not know if you will be able to feel this. What i would do is take the little fellow into the vet.
Good luck. We have parakeets too and I love how noisy they are.

It probably hurts. Birds are unable to fly if they have a broken wing. I would take the parakeet to the vet to see what the extent of the inuries are.

We can't examine your bird to know if the wing is broken or not but an avian vet can. Please take the little guy to a certified avian vet.
