My cats do this to, and I have found that for some reason most cats are attracted to plastic. IT does not seem to matter if it is a plastic bag or a plastic wrapper, they will try to lick it, nibble at it and lie on it.
This is not unsual for a cat to do, based upon observation of my own cats and others. The meowing while in the shower, may be a form of confusion, as since he does not like water, and sees awter as a threat or enemy, he may be concerned that you are in a weird way being attacked. I had to have a visiting nurse come to my apartment to help change some bandages a few years ago, and my cat kept staring at her and trying to stop her from changing the bandages, as if he thought she was hurting me or something.
Despite what a lot of people think, cats can be very sensitive and protective of their owners, they jsut have a different way of showing it than dogs do.

my cat does the same only not always, could be a little fuzz or some specks, cats have better sight then we do, they see things that we can't. For some reason most cats that I know of like plastic bags. When I come home from shopping & a bag falls on the floor, shes right away lying down on it. just be careful so she doesn't go in it, could suffacate. Is he very young? when mine was a kitten she would go on top of my pillow while I'd be sleepung & mash & suck in my hair too, Ithink they are remenbering their mommy & her soft fur, he'll grow out of it as he gets older. As for the shower thing maybe he wants a shower too, he is just worried and looking out for you. He's fine don't worry.

OK all the things you just wrote about my cats do. My little girl seem to love the wall in the house as they are old (made of horse hair... mixture of plaster and horse hair.)
She tore up the wall. Yes they do stare at the wall but LOL we had squirrels in the attic. They let us know when they are moving around. All my cats lick bags. One sucks my ears and the other sleeps with his face in my hair.

ya I actual have a cat that does the comparable element. I dont understand why yet she likes to lick plastic bags or the bag that the lavatory paper comes from...kinda the comparable fabric. Theres no longer something incorrect with your cat. some cats do the comparable element. So dont difficulty approximately it! And for the reason...have not any clue...yet its no longer a concern the place the cat isnt getting sufficient interest or worried...the cat purely likes to lick it for another reason.

The plastic bag thing, hair thing, and shower thing are all pretty normal too. My mother in law's cat would do that when a bat was in the wall (it was a very old farmhouse). Who knows? Cats are all cracked lol.

All the reasons I've read here on Answers are accurate but there COULD be another reason. Some cats are incredibly psychic Your kittie may be seeing or sensing someone in the "spirit world" who is making a visit.

If cats are not exerting enough of their natural instincts (hunting in this case) they will get bored and play with imaginary things out of desperation. Play with your cat more
