Why do people refer to themselves as members of specific religious denominations or as atheists, etc? It really doesn't seem to be any great shakes.

The only people who impress me are "the seekers", the people who are ever searching for the truth and don't stop until they die. They keep reflecting while learning from new experiences until their minds are orbiting the universe and then they keep thinking and wondering and thinking in every way that they can. This also applies to spirituality.

Some of the greatest minds in history called themselves "truth seekers" and not any common label. They sought truth always but were slow to derive conclusions until they were ready.

Do you think of yourself as a truth seeker?

I was a truth seeker for about 3 years as I searched through several religions. I'm no longer a truth seeker, for I have converted to Wiccan a few years ago.

You make a good point. I refer to myself as spirtual rather than religious. So, yes, I do think of myself as a truth seeker. I feel that sometimes religions or denominations are very determined to TELL you what you should believe rather than presenting different ideas and thoughts and then letting you decide on your own.

If you have a set way to view the world and nature of the spirit, you could have a label to identify your view.
