The time for promotion to LTjg is a minimum of two years after commissioning in the Navy or eighteen months in the Coast Guard. LT promotions normally occur 30 months from the LTjg date of rank.

Ens to Jg: 2 years
Jg to LT: 2-3 years
Lt to LtCdr: minimum 5 years
It's pretty much automatic to make O2 and O3 unless you REALLY screw up badly. You typically put it on the month following your Comissioning date. My DH comissioned on 11 October, so he put on LT 1 November 4 years ago. he is still below zone for O4, so even though his name is onthe O4 Board List, he won't get it. He's number ten below Zone, and they will only promote 10% of the total if they are below Zone.. the entire community is only about 1,000 bodies, so yeah.. not gonna happen this year. maybe next.
