blazer transmissions had a problem with the 4th and reverse going out. there is whats called a sun shell reaction plate that actually breaks at a weld. GM made a more robust one but you probably dont have that one yet, not till it breaks. its about a $800-$1000 repair and depending on your mileage its sure to go out sooner or later. GM has a hidden silent warranty called goodwill and if your vehicle is less than 5 years old and less than 60K miles they will help you with the cost of the repair. you just have to call and complain to GM. good luck

If your S-10 has the 4.3 engine and a tow package, and the trailer is a small one (like a U-Haul) then I feel it can do it without problem. However, just watch your speed as the S-10 Blazer is not noted for its stability, especially on wet/slippy pavement. Also, keep in mind that the Blazer will not stop nearly as quickly towing due to the additional weight.

these trucks are rated to tow 6,000 lbs with a 4.3 v6 engine, i for a fact now they will pull far more than that if you use some common sense. I would recommend for a trailer that size that you install some sort of trailer brakes, weight distributing hitch and a sway control (especially with the short well Base Blazer), and an auxiliary trans cooler. my best friend has a 97 sonoma that has over 150,000 miles on it and he pulls a car hauler all the time and hasn't touched the trans are eng yet. also my ex has a 94 s-10 with over 200,000 on it and the same with it, orginal trans and eng and that trucks been way overloaded many times and is still going strong
