I doubt you can. You do realize they are breed to dig? Dachsunds are supposed to dig into the nest of a burrower like a mole and kill them. Their whole purpose is to dig. I think you will find it very hard to curb the behavior.

These people are right, it is part of the breed.
but not all dachshunds dig (I have owned 7 so far over my life and only 1 was a real digger) so I believe they can be taught not to dig.
you have to catch them in the act and scold them (do not hit..Dachshunds are a stubborn breed and will continue behavior to spite you) I recommend a simple spray bottle.
When they dig, say No! and squirt them with water, they will learn it is an unwanted behavior. But as I said Doxies can be a stubborn breed so it will take patience and extra love.
After all he is just being a dog :)

Dachshunds have prey force and digging instinct - they're bred to dig into badger holes and kill the badger - actually, so the tearing up the paper is tantamount on your canine working in the direction of his digging skills - completely frequent for a dachsie. stay with it till you may get your canine potty experienced via taking him exterior frequently, quite after he eats, while he gets up, and in the previous bedtime. This takes persistence and time. As to the charmer who inspired hitting him on his "bootie" - i wish somebody 20 to 30 situations your length smacks you on your bootie, perhaps you will get some experience. You by no ability hit a canine, do no longer even scold - purely compliment, compliment, compliment while he gets it good exterior - supply him a severe high quality cope with too. Hitting or scolding gets you a at a loss for words, aggressive, apprehensive and sneaky canine. canine have not any concept why you're mad while they do some thing - all they understand is which you're mad and subsequently they shy away and seem apprehensive.

I don't think you can! They were bred to do that. My dog, Laci, will dig on the couch or the bed or where ever she is. If you really want to have fun with your dog, when you are under the covers in bed or on the couch, make sure your dog is on top of the covers and try to grab his/her legs from under the covers....my dog goes wild when my husband does this. She goes into attack mode and will dig and bite, trying to get whatever monster is lurking under the covers.

You know, if you include other types of dog owners, you may get more answers. True some breeds of dogs tend to dig more, but digging is found in all breeds of dogs.

Dachshunds were originally created to dig. It is a trait you will have a hard time training out of him, if that is even possible.
Call a dog trainer.

Mine never dig. They are mostly indoor dogs. I would make sure they have plenty of toys to play with and do not run any water where he is in the yard.
Don't keep him out for long periods of time.Keep his nails trimmed that might help
