We can't afford a reception with our honeymoon and all. We love BBQ and we thoght it would be relaxing to through on some jeans and kick back after all the stress of the wedding.

We decided to have the BBQ the next day because we are getting married at sunset. So after the wedding would be kind of late.

I don't think it's weird, but I do think it would be nice to have a simple cake and punch reception after the ceremony just to thank your guests. Then those who can make it can also come to the BBQ the next day.

no way. I know what you mean- weddings and honeymoons and receptions are So expensive. WE have family EVERYWHERE so we had a small dinner after the wedding down south (where us and his family live) and then had a large reception up north (where most of my family lives)then went on our honey moon. With two large families we couldnt afford 2 cermonies OR 2 receptions. Now a days I really dont think there is such a thing as what to do or what Not to do. Go with what is best for you and your man- it is YOUR day after all!

I don't see anything wrong with having a BBQ. Now a days people get so cooked up about spending thousands of dollars on a reception, they forget the purpose of the whole thing. Have fun, and enjoy it!
Good Luck

I think that's cool idea, I had an evening wedding with a quick reception afterward, I wish we'd though of that idea...also with the BBQ idea you can have people that may not have been able to come to the wedding for one reason or another I say go for it!

Great idea! Everyone is worn out and stressed after a wedding and the reception can get long in formal attire.

What a lovely way to be with your family and friends and set the mode of your union which is casual and everyone is invited.

Best of luck

This time should be about you anyway. A BBQ sounds like a great idea, I wish I had thought of it. If the guest want to drink it's BYOB and if they want to dance they can turn on the CD player and go once around the yard. Congratulations! I hope you have a wonderful honeymoon!

I don't think that's tacky at all. My fiancee and I aren't throwing a reception either. We're torn between having a cocktail party or throwing a BBQ (I'm leaning towards the BBQ). With this sort of party, everyone is relaxed and able to have fun. Go for it!

yes. Most mature people would host their guests for a reception on the wedding day - and forego the honeymoon if you can't afford it! What big stress of the wedding is there if you are only having a ceremony?

Hell no it's not weird, I love BBQ and the wedding really is about ya'll and what ya'll want. I'd much rather have good BBQ than crappy food at a reception hall.

Not weird at all. And what's wrong with having a BBQ reception?
Sounds like a really good time.
