I have a sheltie named Sasha and she is really smart. She loves to look out the sliding glass doors in our apartment, but she barks at everything, like leaves blowing by in the wind, cars that drive by and pretty much anything else that moves. I don't mind that she barks, but she doesn't stop. I know I'll never train the "guard dog" mentality out of her, and I'm glad she lets us know when someone is out there. It's just that she will continue barking until you get up in her face. We have tried everything. We distract her with water bottles and we have tried the spray bottle. But short of beating her, or trying a shock collar, does anyone know of anything to get her to stop barking once we know that there is someone out there? Multiple suggestions and personal experience are more than welcome!

There is a bark stoper you can hang in your house so when Sasha barks a high pitched ringy sound buzzes in her ear but you don't here it. It is mean but it works.

I have a Silky Terrier and he is the same, he barked at everything that moved. I tried everything, but I felt bad because I knew he was bothering the neighbours too. After a lot of thought I bought him a shocking collar. He is a little dog (12 lbs soaking wet) so I didn't want to hurt him. The lady in the pet store assured me that the shock would correspond with the bark. In other words, the smaller the bark the smaller the shock. I bought the collar 2 and a half years ago, and Milo is a different dog because of it. He only got 2 or 3 shocks and he learned not to bark, he just growls now. It was the best 100 dollars I ever spent. It has made my dog into the pet I wanted.

there are many different things you can do. You can get a bark collar that is like invisible fence but it shocks your dog when they bark. You could try a muzzle. You could also go to an obedience class that works with barking. My dogs back because they get bored or they hear something. at an obedience class that i went to with my dog they told us that if he barked when he didn't need to or didn't stop barking to pull up on the back of his neck little and tell him very sternly "NO BARK" and that worked for what we needed it to.
Good Luck!

This breed is known for constant barking. I would get the collar if I were you even though I think it is cruel. I babysat for a lady that had the dogs bark removed, also cruel. But their bark is high pitched and can be quite annoying.

When she barks, stand in front of her and calmly tell her "no." When she tries to go around you to bark some more, position yourself in front of her again and repeat the command; do this until she calms down and stops. Using this method consistently could help her understand that she's not supposed to bark at every thing.

I think your dog is very territorial, that is why barks so much. Let it be, is an animal, plus she loves you. You should not use anything that could hurt the dog.

I had a Chow mix that barked all the time but only if she was alone in the yard. If I was out there with her, then she didn't bark. The vet said it was anxiety, she'd be anxious because she was alone.

Barking is the nature of the beast. Most of the time, people that get their dogs to not bark spend bookoo time with them. Most people don't even come close to spending that much time with their dogs.
