I used to have three cats that were indoor/outdoor cats. We would bring them in at night so they wouldn't go off too far. I had a male cat named Howie who was eight months old, Howie's sister named Chloe, and a three year old male named Petey. Howie and Petey were so nice, but Chloe was scared of everything and stayed outside at night, too. Anyways, one day we called them back in and only Petey came back. I hoped Howie would come back the next morning, but he didn't. Then a week later Petey disappeared. Now only Chloe is left. She's gotten more tame, but still likes to stay outside with the stray cats. Howie and Petey were both male cats, and we live in a neighborhood with tons of cats. Do you think either of them will ever return home?
Sorry for typing so much.

Male cats are known for straying off. You have a good chance of your cats coming back, but don't count on them staying around long. I had a male cat that would disappear for days, then weeks at a time. He even disappeared for over 3 months, then one day I opened up the door, and he ran inside like he'd only had been gone for a few hours. Male cats that get a nose-full of the outdoors, will roam. It's in their nature. It's the same for females if they are close to being in heat. Your best bet is to have her fixed, and when the others come home, grab them up, and fix them, too. You probably won't ever be able to get them where they will stay inside again, but fixing them takes away some of that urge to run off and repopulate the world with kittens. Good luck. I know it is disheartening when they run off.

there are a lot of things dependent on whether or not a cat would come back. un-neutered male cats have a less likelihood of coming back, because they tend to go far to find an available mate. they also could have been picked up by animal control in assumptions that they too are strays. make sure the female cat you still have has a collar with all her tags, and check around in shelters for you males.

I so hope they do come back, and think they probably will as it sounds like there is a bit of competition for food on your street if there are lots of strays around. Sadly there is also the possibility that something has happened to them.
In my neighborhood there were lots of strays, and many people don't like them and poison them etc (which is why I've rescued them!).
Please don't let your kitties stay outside with the strays. Strays often have FIV (I know because I have rescued FIV+ cats) and your kitties can get it if they fight with them. Also, they do get hit by cars and poisoned etc.
Please, when they come back, start keeping them inside....it will save you this sort of worry in the future and will guarantee that the kitties live longer, healthier lives.
Have you considered putting out food at night and trying to trap them to get them back in? If you want more info about how to do it, please email me direct as I'd be happy to give you advice. I've humanely trapped many kitties in order to rescue them.

The longer the cats are gone, the less likely you will ever see them again. I hope you use this experience as a lesson and do the right thing by keeping Chloe indoors.
Cats are no match for automobiles, extreme weather, wild animals, chemicals, and abusive people.

It's hard to tell. Do they have a litterbox in the house? If so, take some of the soiled litter and put it outside around your house. If they are nearby they may be attracted.
My advice to you if you do get them back is to keep them indoors. Not only are there wild animals out there, there are sick people and dogs that could kill them. Also feline AIDS is big. It's not worth it. I keep my cat in for those reasons. If she wants to go out, she does so on a leash but that's not that often. She is happy staying in the house

Some cats come back while others don't. I lived in an apartment complex at one point and all of my cats found new homes. In fact, one came back to say good-bye. I know have three cats and we can't chase them away. We even get the neighbour's cats around here.

I think that they will return again. But it is shaky if they are going to stay because they have been staying away more and more. Can you just keep them in the house and not let them out? Good luck with your cats.

It's possible - but one thing to remember in life, you don't own your cat, they own you! Cats will make up their own mind where to live. If your male cats were not neutered then they are most likely looking for female cats...I hope they come back soon.
