My dog is already potty trained and everything, should he still sleep in his kennel at night, or could he sleep with me?

As a person who has had 15 dogs in his life, and had to deal with another 10 dogs in the extended family, I recommend against having a PET dog kept in a kennel.

Of the 8 dogs who were kept in a kennel as part of their daily routine, 7 of them were very "cowardly" outside the kennel. They would cringe when meeting new people and when scared they would run for their kennel. That might be cute for a Chihuahua, but is is embarrassing with a large dog.

Look at it from your dog's view. You go to work 8-10 hours a day. What does the dog do? You come home and do laundry and cook and watch TV. What does the dog do? You go to bed for 6-10 hours a night. What does the dog do?

Just when do you have any time for the dog? If you think playing with the dog for 1-2 hours a day is enough, imagine being the dog and bored most of the time.

Now, if you let the dog sleep with you, that is 6-10 hours the dog gets to "be" with you. The dog does not care if you are asleep. He gets to "be" with you and that is all a PET dog cares about.

Their lives are too short to have to spend it in a kennel.

Are trying these: 1) have the kennel next to your mattress for a whilst and when you've got him on the mattress and you need him off, just put him in the kennel untill he will get used of it and optimistically he will before your lady friend strikes in 2) put him in there with something that smells like you and simply maintain him in there for about 5 minute durations 3) take a seat with him even as he is in there for a even as at night untill he falls asleep four) hold him close it with treats for a whilst 5) reward him even as he is in the kennel with treats(even though you place him in there) 6) preserve the kennel in a position where numerous humans are the entire time(eg a loungeroom) 7) reward him rather a lot if he goes in there with out aid 8) serve his meals close it to get him used of being near this discipline 9) i do know that this could sound a little weried however put a lamp close the kennel to make it not so darkish 10) seeing as it can be wintry weather, keep whatever warm in there(eg a sizzling water bottle) the sizzling water bottle would resemble his mother's body and body warmth eleven) on account that he is a puppy, put a clock with a seccond hand underneath the blanket in his kennel, because with puppys, the consider that this sound is their mother's heartbeat and then they consider more at home 12) after a whilst which you can slowly move the kennel closer and in the direction of the balcony the place he's sleeping thirteen) when he's external, still preserve the entire toys and clocks in there, however particularly the hot water bottle as it maintains him heat and cosy i am hoping that I helped! Good success!

My Bonnie dog liked to sleep in her kennel. I left the door open so she could get up whenever she wanted. She would put herself to bed about 9 pm every night. My Sam hates the kennel so it is not even out anymore. He likes to sleep with us for a little while then he will go in the living room and sleep in "my" chair. Since your dog is house broke I would put him bed with you and let him decide if he wants to stay or not.

Let your dog decide. When it comes night time, open the kennel, and go to bed. Your dog will decide if he wants to sleep in his kennel or the bed with you. Sometimes it might sleep with you, and sometimes it might go into the kennel. If your dog is like (She's a pug) she doesn't like the kennel. She wants to roam around and sleep freely. It just depends what your dog wants, that's all.

We didn't put our dog in a kennel even when we were potty training him. However I don't allow him to sleep in the bed either. A 105 pound rott has no business in my bed. If you don't want to put him in the kennel but don't want him to sleep in your bed you can get him a bed of his own or he will just find a comfortable place on the floor(like ours does). Just remember that if you allow him to sleep with you it will be VERY hard to break him of that when you don't want him there.

it really depends on your preference some people don't want their dogs in there bed and would rather have them in a kennel all night and others can't stand having the dog in the kennel all night. do what you think is right for the two of you.

I think he should sleep with you. I think it's terrible when peoplemake animals sleep in a kennel, dogs to me are humans and all other animals:)

That depends does your dog chew things because you don't want to chance him eating something he not suppost to in the middle of the night. If he doesn't that I would let him sleep with you I think it bonds your dogs with you more when you let them sleep with you.

If he is completely housebroken there should be no reason as to why he can't sleep with you. My dog has beens sleeping with me for the last 3 yrs.
