Well, you can't just "stop" the color at the end of the island. If you paint that wall, it would have to continue all the way through into the livingroom. Red is a warm color. So, you would need something that complemented that warm color. You can get that even with the traditional "cool" colors by adding tones that warm up the cool feel. One color combination that I think is really striking is a cherry color with a warm grey. Greys are considered neutrals, so would go with virtually anything, and yet have enough "color" to add interest to a room and give it some visual presence. Take a look at the link. "Chadwick" is a particularly nice shade of grey. You can also incorporate a bit of green into the grey as in the group lower down. "Glen Abbey" and "Greyswood" are nice. A grey with a little brown is also nice, such as "Stepping Stone." Going with an eggshell, tan, cream, beige or other neutral is always "safe," very safe. But it often does nothing at all for a room. Take a chance and step outside the borders of the safe realm and try something that will really add some interest, dimension and punch to the room without being overpowering. Have fun!

when you have a deep rich wood like cherry, any color you pick will look terrific!
color brings out the beauty in any wood cabinetry.
pick a color that you like and run with it.
you can choose which walls to paint. it will look just fine to carry your paint into the living room.
you do not need to paint ALL walls. but you may like it so much you might want to!
and don't believe the lie about dark colors make rooms look smaller. it is not true!
use at least a SATIN finish paint so you have some washability.
if you are unsure of your color choice, buy 1 quart and try it out. do 2 coats so you can see what the finished product will look like.
look at the color at different times of day and from different parts of the room.
don't buy cheap paint.
HAVE FUN!

A warm beige - on the pinkish side - That is what color I picked to go with my cherry entertainment center - hardly nothiced the pinkish coloring except when it was sunset. It seemed to tone down the "red" in the cabinet and brought out the lighter browns.

What's your favorite color? As long as it goes with your furniture, you can use anything that you personally love. Another idea is to pick one feature wall to paint your favorite color and paint the rest in a neutral like beige, cream, or gray.
