What are you going to save the ozone layer from? The "hole" in the ozone layer is on a seasonal/ solar cycle. Since the baning of CFC's the ozone layer has been recovering by itself. The thickening and thinning or the ozone layer is a natural seasonal occurrence so don't freak out, sometimes nature can fix itself without human interference.

If given time, approximately 30 years scientists believe, the ozone layer will heal itself.

Because CFC's were banned back in the 80's, there won't be any more of these ozone destroying molecules added to the atmosphere. But, the problem lies in how long CFC molecules last. Unlike most atmospheric molecules, CFC's can last over 30 years. This means that all of the CFC's that were released during the past 30 years are still up there, floating around, turing ozone molecules into plain old O2.

So basically, time will be the only thing that will help solve this problem.

Active solar is expensive, but passive solar is not. Check into things you can do around your existing home to maximize passive solar gain. There are some excellent books, websites and resources to find out more about it.
