Have been an Ambien addict for over a year (10-25 mg/day). Lately I have been experiencing extreme dizziness and light-headedness (day and night) and am wondering if these symptoms could be related to the Ambien. Does anyone else on Ambien have these symptoms?

I've been using Ambien for 2 years now and have had no addictive reactions. Then again, I use it responsibly, so I guess I'm not the best person to ask. With that being said, dizziness however, is a side effect that can occur and is normal. The addiction part on the other hand isn't all that valid.

You need to see a doctor if you think you're "addicted." Seeking medical advice via Yahoo Answers probably isn't the wisest idea.

I was addicted to ambien for 10 years.. At last count I was taking 20 or so 10 mg a day.. I did not have these symptoms.. If it just started it may be an ear infection or something.. I started having seizures on ambien .. It's VERY addictive but you know that.. I won't tell you to quit because I listened to that for 10 years and you will quit when you get ready.

Chances are it will take you an entire week (or more) completely awaken to start to get free of ambien. You 'll need help to do that, because you will not be able to avoid buying and taking it, not because of the addiction but for the suffering of sleep privation. Do not quit all at once, try to diminish the dose 1/10 every two days. Believe, this is the worst withdraw you have to worry about. You may have to try some other drugs to help you on the way - some benzodiazepine, and anti-depressant. Good luck.

I have never taken Ambien personally, but while googling info for you I found this thread which has a bunch of people in your shoes posting a bunch of very helpful info. At the very least, they would be supportive. The original poster on this thread claims she is taking up to 100mg of Ambien a day! Hard to believe, whenever I give a dose of 10mg of Ambien to a patient they are completely unconscious. They can be roused but quickly slip back into sleep and rarely remember speaking to me!

I had the same problems. I started using nyquil instead of ambien and its much cheaper and works just as well. But if you want a prescription insomnia treatment without those nasty side effects, ask your doctor about "Lunesta". And try taking a lower dosage of ambien. If 5mg can knock me out (6'6 210lbs) im sure it would work for you.

I have been using Ambien for @10 yrs. Every night. It is a non-addictive medicine. Overdose can cause your symptoms.

These are known side effects of the medication. You need to talk to your doctor ASAP about the side effects.
