Contact your local State Attorney immediately and claim identity theft so they can begin to prosecute him. In the meantime, notify at least one of your credit agencies and put a fraud alert on your credit report. By law, if you report to one agency, they must report to the other agencies your fraud alert, but if this might be more serious, go ahead and contact all three: Experian, Equifax and Trans Union. A fraud alert will make it more difficult for him to open any new accounts without them contacting you first to verify. A fraud alert will remain for 90 days, unless you reqest it to remain longer or be removed earlier.

Once you have a police report and documentation to prove this debt is not yours, contact the utility company and show them that it was not you. Most companies will work with you to remove this, as long as you have reported the crime.

Arent you glad he is your EX!
I would call the police on him TODAY!
I would call the electric company and ask them where you can send proof that it was not you.
Ideally you have a lease someplace else.
If not, you can call the place where HE lived and ask them if they would give you a statement saying that you never lived at the place where he established that service.
DO not call him.
LEt him be surprised like you were.
You might have to even file in small claims court to get back the money that they are going after you for. Do this if the electric company does not agree to drop it.
If you ever doubted your decision to dump him, you should never do it again.
Thank GOD you didnt marry this creep!

Listen to the first two answers and keep in communications with the electricity company as they're your proof he claimed to be your husband.

Call the electric company and tell them that you were never married to this guy. Ask to be referred to their fraud department (most have one, for situations like this).
