If you had Chicken Pox then you cannot catch it again or catch shingles from a person with chicken pox. The chicken pox virus lies dormant in everyone who has had chicken pox and if for some reason your body's immune system is weakened then that same virus can reactivate and give you shingles. Shingles is simply the dormant chicken pox virus left over from when you initially had it as a child.

Shingles usually occurs in older people but I had it and am only 31, it is VERY painful, constant pain for at least 3-4 days (for me anyway). It feels like someone is holding a hot frying pan to your face for a few days. Get to the doctor for meds asap if you ever get it. The first signs I had and this may sound weird by it felt like my hair was in pain on the left side of my head. Next I began to develop small bumps on the left side of my face that went into my ear. After about a week the bumps turn into hard scabs that eventually dry up and leave a nasty scar.

That was my experience, hope it helps.

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.

Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.

My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.

Yes you can catch shingles, as previously said they are in the same group. But just because your two year old has chicken pox doesn't mean that you will automatically get shingles. Check out the nhs direct website for both.

In my ideas Shingles is brought about via the comparable virus that motives chickenpox. The virus is going dorment interior the spinal twine after a case of chickenpox and would reactivate years later ....if ever. people who improve shingles yet have 'by no ability had chickenpox' probably had a subclinical case of chickenpox ,i.e. 2 or 3 pox that became no longer found out as chickenpox. Shingles are no longer transmitted . this is reactivaion of an previous an infection of the comparable virus. infrequently somebody with shingles can shred the virus to reason chickenpox to a new child or immunocompromised guy or woman or infrequently to that unusual grownup who did no longer have case of chickenpox as a baby yet no longer any other way around. communicate on your well being care expert. somebody does no longer seize the shingles.

If you have had chicken pox, you won't "catch" shingles. They are all the same group of viruses. Once you have had chicken pox that virus is in your body for life, and can come back in the form of shingles due to stress, weakened immune system, etc. Both of my toddlers have had chicken pox and I didn't suddenly acquire shingles. You will both be fine.

Yes, I did. (That scared you didn't it - sorry !) I had Chicken Pox as a kid and contracted shingles in my early thirities. At first, the quack mistakenly diagnosed it as Herpes and I lost a girlfriend as a result . I'm telling you this last bit because, maybe, I'm not a doctor, the symptoms had fooled the doctor. So, God forbid, you have a similiar experience, get a second opinion.

Billy bean has it right. If you have never had chicken pox, then you shouldn't hang around someone with shingles - if you've had it, then you're clear.

You don't "catch" shingles.
The chicken pox virus from childhood lives, apparently, forever in your system and will re-appear in adulthood when your body's immune system is low. That's when it is called shingles.
This sort of thing occurs when you are very run down or weak from stress or something else of that nature.
It's not a fun occurrence, but then its not usually serious either.

Shingles are shop signs that hang above stores. You could probably catch them and possibly your wife could if she played netball at school. Normally they are pretty firmly secured but you never know and you are right to worry. Hope junior gets better soon.
