Every time someone says they are Atheist it is presumed we don't believe in anything at all, only thing we do have is a common belief that whatever life is about the Gods of Religion are not involved! It's not just the Christian God! I believe in life after death but many don't.
Why do we have empty lives? I don't! Mine's full and not selfishly so. I live as good a life as my Christian friends and family!
Do you think it could be a touch of jealosy? We are after all allowed to think for ourselves!

I'm far too old to be rebelling against anything and life after death does not mean to me, an eternal life in some heavenly place

We march to the beat of our own drum! We believe whatever we choose to individually, not what some silly book (that's full of contradictions) tells us. We know the difference between right and wrong and, if we do wrong, we suffer our own consequences whatever they may be. Our lives are full - of freedom! Of course they're jealous, and most of them can't back out now because they'd look even sillier than they do now.

I think the term 'unbeliever' is generally used by people who believe in specific things, like the Christian God, so when they're using it they mean 'someone who has a different world view/belief system'. We're not disputing the fact that you are just as good people as we are, or that you have many good things in your life. We're just unhappy that you're missing out on the best thing in life - knowing God.

There are different types of religionists and there are different types of atheists. I don't think that jealousy is the reason why atheists are seen as unbelievers. I think that most religionists don't understand what atheism is all about. The reason for this is because they haven't had the opportunity to talk to different atheists about their beliefs. Birds of a feather flock together you know.

Religionists think that atheists live empty lives because the religionists can't imagine life without God. Its similar to people believing that they simply could not survive without power and running water, or that life would be miserable without those things. However there are millions of people in the world who live just fine and dont happen to have these conveniences.

Its all a matter of perspective, and some people have a hard time understanding different perspectives.

So if its just not the Christian God, which God do you believe in? Who is in your afterlife, if its not the same as mine? Who founded it?
Sounds like you do believe in a God, but you just don't agree or participate with organized religions, or a specific type of church.
Guess what. I'm a Christian, and I don't, either.
I have no denomination, I am mostly against the organized religions, I do not attend an area church. My life is full, too, and I'm happy that yours is as well;
have a good one,
Jan

Do not be so smug. After all, this life is the one that you control. Your fate in the afterlife is beyond your control once this life is past. You will then be judged for your unbelief. I should be jealous of that? I do not think so. Christians are allowed to think for themselves. It is our will that we must turn loose, so that the will of God may be done in our lives instead of our own will. This is a privilege. How sad that one never feels the presence or protection of God in their life. I would not want to live in that manner. Good luck to you.

Atheists are considered unbelievers because of their lack of belief in God. Your admission to belief in an afterlife of any type is definitely abnormal when compared to the beliefs of most atheists. (No offence intended). Life on this earth is merely a test for where we spend our eternity. As a confessed atheist, I'm surprised you believe in any kind of afterlife because this is a teaching of religions and religions necessitate the belief in a god or gods. You may truly enjoy a life full of the blessings which this world has to offer but that is not enough. The Bible speaks of a very wealthy man who had everything when God said to him, "Behold, this night thy very soul will be required of thee". I have never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul and I never will. The things of this world are only temporary and we can't take any of it with us.

If you don't believe in God then you are not a believer in God. Right? An unbliever. It seems so simple. You don't believe in God yet I'm suppose to consider you to be a christian who in order to be a christian is to believe in God? A Christian God. Any other kind of God is an idol. Oh this is way to much.

Great question. I myself am not sure about an afterlife. Just because I don't believe in god doesn't mean I don't believe in some sort of afterlife where EVERYONE is included. But I don't live my life waiting on that afterlife. I don't have an empty life either. I just got home from eating out with some friends...fajitas and margaritas...yum!

Yes, I believe it is jealousy. Jealous of the fact that we CAN be happy and MORAL, law=abiding citizens without believing in some deity who is judging our every move. Such freedom!

And I agree with Ms Taurus...why does an afterlife have to be associated with some god?

Well I usually use "nonbelievers," designating specifically that we do not believe in their god or any. Doesn't mean we don't believe in anything else in life...or rather there are other things we have confidence in.

And btw...with those that think an 'afterlife' has to be a heaven, linked to religion and their god... I personally feel that "maybe" there "could" be able to be something more, but not at all related to religion or gods and not their concept of it. Rather very much still here with this world and a dimension all of it's own.
