I drove my car to CA from NY last April. Its been an ongoing saga to get it registered here (failed smog once, check engine light problems, unemployed twice, etc) and I'm all ready to register it here. The problem is, when I moved out here, I was unemployed for about a month and I let my insurance lapse for 10 days. NY wanted me to send my plates in to them for 10 days and then go pick them up as a penalty for no insurance for that time. Obviously I couldn't do that, since I'm on the other side of the country. Now I want to register my car properly since I finally passed smog, but my NY registration is suspended! To make it worse, I can't find my registration certificate! Am I going to have a problem registering it? Will they take my car? What should I do?

PS - I got it smogged this morning and they sent my results that I passed into the DMV... with my NY license plate number!

Got your title? That will show proof you own the car. Take that and the smog cert in to the DMV and they will tell you what you need to do. It would be a good idea to get a ride there because your car isn't registered now.

Well you can try DMV online. They have some helpful stuff. What I do know, is that you will have to pay taxes here in california for the car. I believe you will also need proof of insurance to get it registered in cali

You'll have to obtain a duplicate copy of your title from NY prior to registering your vehicle in CA. But you'd be better off calling the CA DMV and asking these questions to them....they're the best ones to answer your questions.

Yeah, you are going to have more problems. Also, you have to provide proof of insurance to title and register a car in California.

given which you're right here on a short-term accountability foundation and Arkansas remains your place base you will desire to be waiting to maintain the Arkansas license and registration. The re registration regulations persist with to human beings" shifting" into the state.

Oohhh. Sounds like a real problem.
Have you tried going to DMV? They would be the better source to ask. They would tell you what you need to do or go to http://www.dmv.ca.gov/ for more info.
