For those who aren't attending the dog show is aired on TV next week Monday 2/12 and Tuesday 2/13. Only AKC Champions of the 154 recognized breeds (165 varieties) will compete for the title Best In Show. If you don't see your breed represented at this show, it is not an AKC breed. Labradoodle this and cockapoo that, imperial, teacup, puggle whatever are not entered here! You will also learn what each of the "purebred dogs" are truly bred for at this show and why mixing them up means unpredictable characteristics.

I will not be attending, but many of my friends who have champion dogs will be; according to AKC & WKC rules, your entry MUST be a champion of record in order to compete at this level... it didn't used to be that way, years ago! Oh, and you're right! NO DESIGNER DOGS NEED APPY! I will be cheering my many friends & fellow exhibitors on ,while I watch the group judging next week; one will have a Chihuahua, (Toy Group) one is showing a Briard (Herding group) & several will be showing Toy Fox Terriers (Toy Group). I wish them all the very best! Next year, at this time, I hope to be among them, competing for that elusive honor!

We are not able to go, but will be watching pictures, and streaming video on www.westminsterkennelclub.com site. We have friends with a beautiful Scottie whose sire is the same as our girl, Jenna. We always watch USA network's shows on Monday, and Tuesday evening to see the group competition. Last night our friend's dog "made the cut" in the Terrier Group, which was later won by the Dandy Dinmont Terrier, who was ranked the #1 dog in the country in 2006. He is probably one of the favorites to win Best in Show tonight. The programing starts at 8:00 EST.

I won't be going to the show, but I certainly will be watching it on t.v. I watch it every year and learn something new every year about certain breeds of dogs. I try to 'predict' who will be in the Best of Show line up...then predict who will win. I've been correct several times. Lucky guesses. lol
