I like to volunteer as an interpretive docent because of the things I learn and the people I meet. What volunteer experiences have you had that are particularly rewarding?

I volunteered as an EMT. I also volunteered on the spinal cord injury ward with paralyzed veterans at a VA medical facility.

I lead a volunteer project at our local Natural History Museum for teens to be docents for a day. The main objective is to provide a better experience for the community as they are visiting the exhibits, and providing the volunteers an opportunity to sharpen their interpretation and presentation skills. I think it's a lot of fun interacting with the museum visitors.

If you're looking for volunteer opportunities like this, check out your local volunteer center:

I have been a volunteer for the Salvation Army for the last 2 years. I go 2x a week to make food boxes for the needy. This was the first year I rang the bell during the Christmas season. It was the most rewarding experince I have ever had. It was nice to see people giving for a change, especially the teenagers who came by, I thought it was cool because most of them were by themselves and still willing to give. Most kids have to be forced to give.

I used to volunteer at the Humane Society, but I ended up adopting a cat and I could see where that would end up if I still worked there so I had to quit.

Yes...have been on work parties to remote part of Papua New Guinea. Incredible experience to mix with & work alongside people who were stone age cannibals only 30/40 years ago. For those who cynically question people's faith in God it would do you good to SEE God's work in action ! An amazing stoy of people totally transformed in little over a generation.

If 10% of the average $907 that Americans spent on Christmas gifts went to children in need, 42 million children could be helped for an entire year according to statistics provided to me during an interview with World Vision.

This year, I conducted an experiment, and asked for donations to World Vision and Heifer.org instead of Christmas gifts. Many folks simply chose to give me gifts anyway, but many did make donations instead, resulting in $137 going to these charities.

I also have a website where I sell art to support these two Christian organizations. The next time you need art for your walls, please consider my website. My personal favorite of my own work is Sunset over Florence12. Recently my aunt (an amateur photographer) and a friend have donated some of their work for this charitable cause, as well. If you know artists who might wish to join this charity model, please send them my way.

There is a set of 6 world maps on my art for charity website that represents the state of our world in terms of poverty, hunger, disease, education availability of electricity and longevity. You can get a full sized copy for your office or child from my website.

I volunteer in animal rescue. To me that's been very rewarding to speak for those that have no voice.

I answered phones at an indie radio station in college. They played songs the corporate rock stations wouldn't touch at the time, so it was pretty cool giving people that option when they called in obscure requests.
