You might want to seek out another Navy recruiter for a second opinion, just in case. It's better to get the proper waivers signed now, rather than be in trouble for mis-representing yourself later.

this is funny. I was just talking to my friend thursday night and he told me he tried to go to the navy and his recruiter told him not to mention his record. He got booted for lying!! Anyway you will be investigated by the FBI and you will be fingerprinted. They will know everything you have ever gotten in trouble for. Read everything you sign Im sure theres a big section that says if you lie you can get a 10000 dollar and or 5 years in prison. something like that. 3 misdemeanors will not keep you out of the military. You need to tell the truth. Your recruiter is just trying to meet his quota. Dont fall for it. Go to another recruiter. Or just go to the Marines instead. DONT LIE AT MEPS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recruiters are salesmen. They want to sell you on enlisting. While the NAVY really might not care, it's better to tell them now than have them find out later--especially if you end up picking a job in the NAVY that requires any sort of security clearance. Our recruiter told us to omit several things, and we found out pretty quick that it was NOT the way to go. And later on, if they find out, you can't just say the recruiter told you to omit them, because they make you sign a paper upon enlisting that says the recruiter has not instructed you to be misleading, etc. So if they find out, it's solely on your shoulders.
Of course, there is a chance they won't find out. But just in case they do, is it worth the risk????

OK....listen to what i have to say.......
I enlisted into the ARMY several years ago...I was arrested in 1999 for a misdemeanor charge basically shop lifting. I went to the recruiter, we talked and talked and talked....he asked me if i was ever arrested and i told him yes, with all the details... He said, DONT SAY ANYTHING TO YOUR LIASON AT MEPS. I listened to him. I went the first time and got held up with a little paper work that my recruiter didnt fill out correctly so i got postponed... I went back a second time(by the way in the middle of this i was going for a MOS that required a Top Secret/Secret Compartmental Information Clearance.) The liason started asking me questions about EVERYTHING. He came to the point at which he ask me. How come there is no information here about your arrest? I looked at him and told him my recruiter told me that it was a misdemeanor and not to worry about it. His response was "well, worry about it" If you dont have the paper work and waivers required, and "something" happens down the line where you get arrested, or involved in a criminal matter, and this comes up, YOU will be the one who sits in jail for falsifying information on enlistment, not the recruiter. So i went back to the recruiter and told him what happened and HE got all bent out of shapesaying " why did you tell them about it?" i said, i didnt, THEY told me about it. My recruiter had to drive 3 hrs one way with me to the courthouse that had my file to get certified copies of it and drive 3 hours back, he wasnt happy about it. WAAAAA, boo hoo for you. Anyways, Dont listen to him make sure you have ALL of the documents you need, and if he says no no no, you have 2 options here. 1) Go to another recruiter, or 2) Go to MEPS, and when they do ask you, tell them everything, and when they ask why dont you have the paperwork or waivers, tell them everything your recruiter said and did, and your recruiter will probably learn a very GOOD lesson about false enlistment. He will probably lose his recruiters badge, and if he is a civilian contracted recruiter, he WILL lose his contract.
Bottom line is this:
C-Y-A
Cover Your A$$
If you do enlist you will learn that acronym very quickly.
WWWDWA?
What Would We Do Without Acronyms?

#1...If you lie, that is a crime. If they catch you, you not only do not get in, they hit you with a felony.
#2. If you lie and they do not catch you and you go into the service and they catch you years later, they can kick you out with no benefits, perhaps even give you a dishonorable discharge.
#3. If the misdemeanors were when you were under 18, mention them, tell them you were a dumb kid and take it from there. If they were when you were over 18, then you won't get in.

When you go to meps remember these 4 words very well, NO, NO, NEVER, NEVER. This is all you tell the meps personnel if you want in the service. It is not as easy to get into the military as one thinks. Then if you say something you will get in with a waiver but that waiver will eliminate you from some jobs. Sleep easy, you are OK.

The Recruiter will LIE he's butt off to get you in to make his quota. He'll tell you anything and EVERYTHING to get you to go in. TELL the people a MEPS EVERYTHING. Yes this could limit your options, but If you Tell the Truth, you need not remember what you said, and then you can sleep easy.
