You can try DVD burning softwares like NERO or ROXIO. Both softwares have automatic file conversion to DVD format during the burning process. But the software are not free though. But you can google and go to these product's websites. They might have trial versions that you can download and install.

Try "DVD Burning Xpress" from http://www.dvd-burning-xpress.com. This software is not a professional video software, but I think it very easy to use and make good video DVD.

I looked and looked, there is no freeware. AVS is the most reasonably priced and user friendly.
