I also can't put cds so i can transport songs into my ipod. I don't know what to do anymore. PLEASE give me tips and many suggestions on how I can make my pc take in cds (dvds, cd programs etc. again) please help. Like i said i tried everything even giving it a good kick.

as u said, first check the little green light in the front of the CD Rom, if it's not on, then either the power cable is lose or that CDRom is bad. Second, if the eject button is workin( u can put in and take out ur CD), then u might need to reinstall the driver (software) for that particular CDRom. U can dl the driver from the manufacture. goodluck

Try using a good store-bought CD. If it doesn't work (and you haven't made any changes to your operating system) then the optical probably failed.

New ones are cheap - under $20 for a DVD burner. Pull your old one out and consider getting a replacement of the same type - most likely IDE vs. SATA.

If none of those works verify in case you have the comparable subject in secure Mode. If there isn't any subject with in secure Mode then that's a controversy with the motive force/application/working device. If no longer it might desire to be on the subject rely of annoyingcontinual or memory. Run a attempt on those aspects.

Does your DVD reader used to work before?. If it was working before, then it might be that the optical lens is already dirty. You can use a Disc Cleaner first. Then try to read discs again.

check the cable at both ends to see if its loose and gently push it back in...replace the cable, if you have more than one drive check to see if the jumpers are correct..master and slave. check to see if its a non standard atapi driver and you have the correct one. try unplugging the floppy, try replacing the drive...if none of that works, its a board conflict.
