It means that your mentor, teacher, parent or whoever you gain your knowledge from is responsible for the wisdom or knowledge you have. A learner learns only what the "teacher" was able to teach him.

The information you gained from a source is important thing. Do not undervalue accumulation of knowledge, because it does help people a lot.

It can mean many different things. Quotes are what you make them. Pretty much it is saying that you didn't get to where you are right now on your own, there was always someone to help you, and to teach you everything that you know.
