u can add a negitive number that makes a number smaller
e.g 1 + -3 = -2

A Minus number, DUH. Imagine the sum 1+-4+2 as a long stream of numbers to put together. 1, -4, 2. Add the two positive intergers (1, 2 (3)) and you get 3, -4 (or 3+-4) placing it the otherway around makes it simpler, -4, 3, then you can make -4 + 3. An easy sum really, -4+3=-1. DUH!
