What about life outside this universe? Will science and religion agree that there could be other intelligent life lurking around outside our galaxies?

2Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar. Fire will destroy everything in them. God will judge the earth and everything in it. 11 So everything will be destroyed. And what kind of people should you be? You should lead holy and godly lives. 12 Live like that as you look forward to the day of God. It will make the day come more quickly. On that day fire will destroy the heavens. Its heat will melt everything in them.

The last few phrases answer a significant part of your question: "On that day fire will destroy the heavens. Its heat will melt everything in them." "Heavens" and "everything in them" means that NONE of the planets will remain.

The pop-theology "rapture" is NOT a Biblical concept. the 2 Peter passage is about the CLEAREST language found in eschatological (about "end times") literature. It indicates that at Jesus' return EVERYTHING will be destroyed, kind of a reverse "big bang." Earth will no longer exist, so no one CAN BE "left behind."

Don't go flipping too fast. Remember, Jesus taught that SOME people LIVING DURING HIS LIFETIME would "see the kingdom BEFORE THEY DIED."

Luke 9:27 “What I’m about to tell you is true. Some who are standing here will not die before they see God’s kingdom.”
Matthew 16:28 “What I’m about to tell you is true. Some who are standing here will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

If this is true, we MUST conclude that the kingdom HAS ALREADY COME. If the kingdom HAS COME, then Jesus IS REIGNING NOW! Jesus taught that his kingdom "was not of this world." Why are most Christians just like the Jews of that time, STUCK on an earth-bound kingdom? The text of Revelation indicates that the things it tells about were to be completed SOON. The words used (Greek 'en tachei' = "Quickly" see Rev 1:1 & 22:6, along with Acts 12:7 for an idea of the meaning. Did the angel mean for Peter to wait a few years to get out of the cell?) and the context of the writing (to encourage those suffering persecution) don't fit a 1900+ year period before fulfillment
