We are moving across country soon.It is a 26 hour drive. My five year old Chocolate Lab came to me at age two from an a busy household that had no time for her.We are together 24/7 and are very close. When I take her in the car she panics if I try to exit without her.I bought her a sturdy seat belt to keep her put after she crawled over me and got out before I did several times. It pains me to see her so upset when I jump out for a moment. How do I train her to stay calm until I let her out?

She already knows the wait command and will stay in the car if it is in the garage and she can see me.I don't want to sedate her if at all possible. She loves to ride and I take her to visit friends often. She just freaks out when I get out.She also won't stay outside by herself, even in warm weather. She is overly attached to me....even watches me in the shower.

i have a jeep so i put a leash on the dog and clip it to the floor of the back with a blanket and a chew toy and i left the hatch open for the first month of getting her used to being in the car alone whenever i stopped the car and got out. she freaked the first few times... but i came back quickly the first time then every other time i took a little longer to come back then when i could stay gone 1/2 hour (weather permitting of course) i tried a closed car and still tied her to the back. i found it helped to tie her,she felt better. go slow with the training and soon she will love the car.

canine would desire to be limited in autos simply by fact if there is an twist of fate they'd get thrown out and be heavily injured. they'd placed up a fuss approximately it before everything yet once you persevere with it they are going to learn this is existence. My nephew used to combat the seat belt besides.. yet he discovered right this moment it became seatbelt or the automobile does no longer circulate. (I even pulled off of a street to tutor my factor.. we sat in a carpark for 10 minutes with me announcing we are going no the place till I pay attention that belt click youthful guy.) so as with every infants fur or in any different case they'd desire to be secure via their "mom and dad". in case you have a smaller canine they have doggie automobile seats that they are strapped into yet are raised up some so as that they'd see out the homestead windows nevertheless.

Since it's a 1 time deal....talk with your vet about sedating her temporarily. There's not much you can do. she may get used to the car after many hours, she may not. Ask the vet.

teach her the "WAIT COMMAND" teach her to sit and wait,, while you put her food down,, teach her to sit and wait before you go outside,, teach her to wait before coming out of her kennel.. etc. etc............ she needs to learn what wait means.......and she needs to learn to trust you that you are coming back to release her
