If you are not using a network, and not sharing data with others in a local area network, then the HOME BASIC version should be just FINE. That will give you the internet and most of the very basic network stuff.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Home Premium defiantly - only fork out for Vista Ultimate for the more advanced Parental locks, technical help and Hard Drive Encryption.

Home will cover all your general needs just as XP home has.

Assuming you already run a valid version of XP you need to buy the "cheaper" upgrade version of Home Premium.

You could also buy Home basic however note that the security is drastically reduced. However perfect for unsure users to operating systems.

none... windows vista takes up half of your memory and about half of your gb. in order for you to save or download anything you will need to buy more ram and gb for your computer and you will end up spending over $1000. Plus it's brand new and they haven't gotten all the bugs out of it yet. I would wait for a year or two before getting it, but that's my opinion.

These are simple tasks .... they are not an issue for any version of Vista.

The aero versions, however, will tax your video card & perform 10 - 15 % worse with games than XP Pro.
