Multiple sclerosis is a disease in which the body attacks and destroys mylin which is the sheath or protective coating surrounding the nerves. If the mylin of the any particular nerve is entirely broken down, the nerves will ultimately break down as well. The nerves deliver messages to the brain. If you have multiple sclerosis and the mylin on the nerves in your leg are effected, you might not be able to walk. If the optic nerves in your eyes are effected, you have reduced vision or no vision. The disease does not effect major organs and is not fatal. The disease varies greatly in severity. Many people who have this disease live very normal lives. Others suffer blindness, inability to walk and talk, and cognitive difficulties. The The symptoms vary greatly from person to person. The disease can be progressive which means that it becomes worse and worse as time goes on. Or it can be relapsing remitting in which case the symptoms come and go. The cause of the disease is not known and there is no cure as yet. There are however five drug therapies for it that are approved by the Federal Drug Administration. And of course there are many alternative remedies that treat the symptoms. You have a great day!
