Keep your grades up, show a clear focus of where you want working at the shelter to lead to. Show him you are responsible, and that you are a take action person. Tell him how compassion is a value to have, empathy too. Show that you can get to the shelter and back without problem. Talk to the people at the shelter and ask what duties you would be doing, then show your father how you handle those duties at home, maybe if he sees your hard work he will lighten up. I'm glad you are an animal lover, please pass on the spaying and neutering is essential. There are far too many animals put "to sleep". That is another area where you will have to show maturity, what will happen if you get attached to one of the dogs and it is scheduled to be "put to sleep". Are you going to be able to handle that? Good luck with your dream, don't let it go.

Keeping a pet these days is a big responsibility and also it can be expensive.Your father must know this. You will have to prove to him that you can take on the responsibilities of ownership. You have to make sure that you adopt a pet that you are able to look after. There are many dogs in need of adoption at rehoming centres. There, people can help sort out a dog that would suit you and make sure that your home is suitable for certain types of dog. You must be prepared. It is hard work, but worth it to have a loving and loyal pet. Help around the house. Show your Dad that you are a responsible person. Good Luck!

Tell him it would help you learn responsibility, that way when you work a real job in the future you know what to expect from work and are responsible from volunteering. It also looks good when you apply for a job that you have volunteered, you can put it on a resume. Perhaps you can tell him that you feel you will be doing something work related with animals in the future for your profession.

Well I wouldn't see why he would not let you do that,it's basically community service, helping out but if you really need to convince your dad try your best a school,do chores around home, and no arguments and he should see that you are doing really good, and let him know that helping animals really means something to you.

If thats what you really want to do. Tell him that it would be a good expirence and that if you like it, that could be one of your future jobs. Tell him that by volenteering, you could see what different jobs are like.
