In most states you get a permit at the age of 15 or 16. You can't drive on your own until you have a license. Permits just allow you to practice driving or drive around with a licensed person.

You have to pass a written test to get your permit. In most states you usually get you permit between 15 and 16. Then you have to have your permit for so long before you can take the test for your license to drive by your self. Your permit only lets you drive with a licensed adult of age 23-or older depending on what state you are in.

That all depends on the state you live in, if you are in the United States. In Washington, no teenagers are allowed to drive with other teens in the car until they turn 18. A permit is issued at 15 1/2. Contact your state liscensing office for the correct info or look online under your state government listing.
