i just watched a documentary on the vietnam war, and there were lots of interviews with vietnam vets. why did the US send so many vets to vietnam? is it because they sent animals into the war to fight? that's really unfair. why should animals have to fight a war caused by man? i hope the vets managed to save many animals and heal them.

It was to treat King Kong's brother Viet Kong. He lived there and was injured in the war, the US sent dozens of vets to treat his wounds because he was such a big ape.

They didn't lose. The US did. As a matter of fact, there weren't any troops in Vietnam in April 1975, at least none to speak of. The war had been "Vietnamized," and it wasn't lost until Congress cut off funding to the RVN government. The troops did their part. It was Congress that declared a defeat. Put the responsibility where it belongs, and be prepared for a repeat.

Vietnam wasn't a war, Was was never declared, however it was the longest running police action the US had ever fought thus many young uns were involved. Sad to say. I was one of them.,
Vietnam was a turning point in the US. From that day to this day, our nation has been on a down slide. The question you asked is fine, its the rhetoric after that shows you what I am saying. I resent the inference to animals. You my friend are about to find out what life and freedom is all about. You are going to be in a fight for your life, whether you want it or not. One day soon you will find out what it takes to gain and retain freedom. I wish you luck. Be careful out there, it is going to get tremendously worse.

The Vietnam War was fought not so long ago (1965-1974). Therefore, many of the Vietnam veterans are still alive, and that's why many of them still appear in interviews. Compare this with World War II veterans, who are well into their 80s or 90s. There are very few of them still alive.

Vets means VETERAN which means they were talking to people who had served in the military in and during Vietnam. Not the vet who takes care of animals. I'm sad by the fact you don't know this. Hope you're smarter the you sound.

Dogs were used to find explosives and also locate enemy soldiers. I saw a show on the History Channel about it once. The really sad thing is many of the handlers really loved those dogs and felt that they saved there lives. They wanted to keep them. Because the military feared that the dogs would bring disease back to the U.S. they left them in Vietnam, the dogs were poorly treated, staved, and mistreated. Just another tragedy of the mis-guided Vietnam War.

The VETS that went to Viet Nam were VETERANS of WW2 and KOREA. ANYONE who does time in the military is a VETERAN. Those who do time in a WAR are VETERANS OF A FOREIGN WAR. Those who were in the military during the VIET NAM conflict are VIET NAM ERA vets. Those who did time IN COUNTRY in Viet Nam are VIET NAM VETERANS.
If you want to read a great book about FAKE vets, try STOLEN VALOR. My favorite part is where this Asian guy says he's a VIET NAM VET and asks if he can join the American Legion. He joins and works his way up to being nominated for Post Commander. When they do a back ground check on him they find that he is INDEED a Viet Nam vet...from NORTH VIET NAM!
When asked why he didn't say anything, he responded in a very American way, "NO ONE ASKED."
You'll be surprised at who, nationally known, says he was a vet and who says he was a U.S. MARINE wounded in Viet Nam, and who (nationally known) says he was a U.S.
Wait, you said VET as in VETERINARIAN? You really don't know anything about the military, do you.
Dang, I'd better get to bed, my brain isn't operating on all cylinders. As Rosanna Rosanadana said, " NEVER MIND."

The vets were responsible for the frogmentation devices. (interesting and little known innovation of the pentagon in response to the Sierra Clubs demand for biologically and ecologically freindly weapons- biodegradable cardboard box filled with fertilizer and a bit of diesel fuel, topped off with a few frogs- when they exploded, everyone croaked...)
